OccuMED provides audiometric (i.e. hearing) tests. The audiometric test can be requested as:
  • An additional service on top of the pre-placement medical (i.e. a standard Audio)
  • A WorkCover approved audiometric test; or
  • As part of the Mine Worker's Health Surveillance assessment (WorkCover approved audiometric test)

One of the key differences between a WorkCover approved test and a standard Audio, is the requirement for certain criteria to be met before the WorkCover test can be done. These criteria include:

  1. The requirement for 16 hours quiet (i.e. absence of noise exposure in the 16 hours prior to the worker's hearing test)
  2. The absence of wax in the worker's ears
  3. The absence of any condition (e.g. cold, ear infection) that might affect the worker's hearing ability and their hearing test results.

At OccuMED, all the audiometric tests on offer are conducted by WorkCover approved audiometric officers using an audiometer and hearing booth (both of which have been calibrated by a WorkCover approved technician).
