The spirometry essentially measures the amount (volume) and speed (flow) of air inhaled and exhaled by the worker and detects any airflow obstruction.
Otherwise known as a lung function or respiratory test, a spirometry is used to detect and quantify diseases affecting the respiratory system.
As with most tests, the ability to obtain valid and accurate results is partly dependent on the worker's ability and willingness to perform the test using the right technique as instructed by OccuMED.
A spirometry performed as part of a pre-placement assessment, will point to any risk factors regarding the the worker's ability to perform a specific job or task (for example, an underground mine rescue role involving the use of breathing apparatus).
