About Occupational Medicine

Occupational Medicine focuses on the effects of work on health and, conversely, health on work. It encompasses the full range of workplace and environmental hazards – chemical, physical, biological and psychosocial – and how these may cause an adverse impact on health.

Occupational Physicians are Health Insurance Commission (HIC) recognised medical specialists. To qualify as an occupational physician, individuals must first complete a medical degree followed by additional specialist training. Only then can they be admitted to the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
